Skills Assessment/Demonstration Instructions
In this part of the class we demonstrate our skill by performing/demonstrating proper form and alignment, according to our level. By this time in the course, you should know how to adapt the Pilates exercises to your body, level of fitness/flexibility, injuries, and/or personal goals.
The assignment in this module gives you all the information needed to pass the skills demonstration. It is important that you relate ALL the information necessary for each exercise (see specifics in next section). You will NOT turn in anything written for this assignment! The document in the next section is just a guide to help you prepare and to show you what your grade is based on. You are welcome to print out this guide and use it as a “script” during your demonstration.
In this Module you will also find two Pilates exercise documents. Pick three of your favorite exercises that are appropriate for you to demonstrate according to you ability. These documents are NOT an all inclusive list of all the exercises and variations we’ve done this semester. You can pick from these documents or any other exercises/variations I’ve taught you this semester. Just make up a cute name if it doesn’t have a specific name. 😎 You can also choose exercises you discovered from the online resources provided for this course on Canvas.
You may choose to demonstrate your 3 exercises in class in person/LIVE on Thursday, May 18th or turn in a video recording. I will have a sign up sheet for those demonstrating in class, whether in person or live on zoom. The only people who will see your demonstration will also be giving one, so it will be a very supportive environment. I will assume you will do a video if you don’t tell me otherwise. If you turn your video in online, it is due by midnight May 18th. Late videos will not be accepted after Sunday, May 21st! If your video is late, it will receive a 10% reduction in points/day.
Your demonstration (live or by video) should be about 3 minutes, about 1 min/exercise. I promise you can get all the information in about 3 minutes, if prepared. But, please don’t go longer than about 5 mins. It is helpful to practice teaching/demonstrating your exercises to someone else to prepare. You will teach and demonstrate similar to the way I do in class. Each exercise should have about 5 repetitions.
If submitting a video, make sure you show your technique and alignment in good lighting and that your sound is working. If choosing to demonstrate an exercise that has two sides, such as leg circles or side kick, you can just show ONE side to keep time to the 3-5 minutes timeframe. If you choose 100’s, you don’t need to go all the way to 100 in your demonstration. 50 will suffice 😉. This is NOT a time lapse video! REGULAR TIME VIDEO WITH SOUND ON!!
If you would like to save your video to YouTube and then insert a link, the instructions are in this Module. Otherwise, just submit videos like you have been doing all semester.
