CS74.22 Class Modules in Canvas will be updated before class each week, and assignments will be due the following Monday class meeting at midnight. Each class lecture will have an introduction, along with individual tutorials for each individual part of the assignment.

Description

CS74.11 is a Monday class, with the Class Modules in Canvas updated before class each week, and assignments will be due the following Monday class meeting at midnight. Each class lecture will have an introduction, along with individual tutorials for each individual part of the assignment.

This class provides an essential foundation in digital media software. Using industry standard photographic editing, web design, animation and presentation software, students will create an electronic portfolio that includes text, graphics, animation, video, and sound. This class is required for Digital Media certificates including film, game design and web multimedia and is an elective for other digital media certificates. Be prepared to spend 2-4 hours each week on homework assignments. Each week's assignments will be due the following class meeting at midnight. Be sure to not get behind, as it quickly becomes difficult to catch up.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

1. Identify current trends within the digital media industry, analyze and contrast digital media

career opportunities in terms of growth and salary trends.

2. Apply their conceptual knowledge of digital storytelling to the construction of electronic

portfolio that displays original digital media content.

3. Evaluate digital media based on storytelling and design best practices.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course students will be able to:

1. Discuss current trends in the digital media industry.

2. Research and determine career opportunities in Digital Media.

3. Identify, create, edit, and display different types of digital file formats in text, graphics, animation, video, and audio.

4. Create an online digital multimedia presentation using photography, illustration, audio, animation, video and web authoring.

Expectations

-Each week's assignments will be due each following class meeting at midnight.

-When sending an email to the instructor, the subject line should read:
Class Section Number - your last name as it appears on the roster

You will need basic skills for navigating web sites, downloading/uploading files and the ability to send and receive email. The email address you submitted to SRJC (and is editable via your student portal) is the email address used for class announcements and messages. Please be sure that the email address you have there is an account you check regularly. If you did not receive a class message from me by the first day, please contact me directly, so we can verify your email as it reads on the roster.

Submitting Homework
We will be submitting homework files to a unique file uploader each week, using links in the Pages within the Class Modules in Canvas. All assignments (exception: weekly questions and online quizzes are due on Mondays) are due the following class meeting at midnight. Be sure to check your grade book each week to verify that all your assignments are recorded from the previous week.

Be sure to verify the required specs to run the Adobe Suite, including all CC2021-22 applications on your computer. You also need to choose a Mac or PC version.

Class Participation

As part of this class you'll participate in our class discussions, which will also be used for some of the homework. This will also a great place to discuss assignments with your classmates, post/answer questions and share tips!

Tests and Exams

In addition to the required Mid Term and Final projects and exams, we will have periodic quizzes.

Weekly Assignment Questions
Each assignment has a required question. These are to be submitted by noon each week the day before the next class meeting using the specific Page within the weekly class Module. Be sure to submit these questions even if you will miss class for any reason to receive the points. This is any question on the weekly topic that you want to know more about. These questions will also be used in our review of the topics each week, before we move on to the next subject.

Grading

All assignments each week are due the following class meeting at midnight and can't be accepted late for full credit. Be sure to follow the due dates listed on the Assignment page. .

Please log in and check your grade book starting Week 3 to verify all your submitted assignments are recorded.

Your grade book will show your points, with brief notes. For additional feedback on assignments, quizzes and projects, please contact instructor during office hours, or set up an alternate time to meet online or in-person.

Final grades are based on a total point system. The mid term quiz and mid term project, along with the final quiz and final project are required to pass the class.

Grading percentages are as follows:

A 93%-100%

B 82%-92%

C 70%-81%

Dropping the Class

Dropping the class is your responsibility. Contact Admissions and Records for specifics. Be sure to watch the important dates listed above!

Attendance Policy:
-All students are expected to participate in all sessions of the course.
-A student may be dropped from class when that student's absences exceed ten percent (10%) of the total hours of class time. A student may be dropped with more than two class absences. Student's are required to communicate with the instructor prior to any missed classes, keep in touch, let me know if you can't make a class for any reason.
-All students are required to check-in to the class during the first week via the assignments in the Class 1 Module within Canvas. Students who fail to log on and initiate participation by the second class meeting may be dropped by the instructor.

Late Work Policy-
All assignments are due the following class meeting. It is always better to turn an assignment in late, rather than not at all. Points will be deducted based on how many days the late assignment is submitted.

Standards of Conduct

Students who register in SRJC classes are required to abide by the SRJC Student Conduct Standards. Any violations of these standards is basis for referral to the Vice President of Student Services or dismissal from class or from the College.

Collaborating on or copying of tests or homework in whole or in part will be considered an act of academic dishonesty and result in a grade of 0 for that test or assignment. Students are reminded to share information and ideas, but not their work.
