Video: Avoiding Plagiarism

Introduction

One of the most important aspects of academic honesty and integrity is ensuring that all of the work you submit in a college class is authentic and your own.  Plagiarism is a one of the most serious breaches of academic integrity and must be avoided at all costs.

Plagiarism occurs usually either because the student doesn't know how to properly cite a source or because the student decides to take a short-cut and copies the work of someone else and claims it as their own.  I routinely use Turnitin Links to an external site. to check submitted work for plagiarism.

You are expected to use research to find facts and data to support your opinions and it's fine to use the work of others for this purpose.  What is critical is that you cite your sources and that you use quotation marks when copying verbatim content from someone else.  Take some time to view the videos below to learn more about plagiarism and how to avoid it.
