Topic

One learning goal of this class is to introduce the phonetic symbols in Chinese “Pinyin” and tones that helps you speak Mandarin Chinese on common vocabulary and phrases related to everyday topics. In this module, we'll learn the Pinyin system using Roman Alphabet and four different tone marks as a tool to develop sound of Chinese written characters.


Goals

By the end of this week you will be able to:

  • Describe the differences of four tones
  • Identify the initials (consonants) and finals (vowels) in English Alphabet that makes sound of a word, phrases and sentences in Chinese
  • Articulate a tone (1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th) mark that is located on a final (vowel) to emphasize correct pronunciation
  • Apply the Pinyin system when you speak or/and read with Chinese characters
