Instructions
This survey asks about your availability for in-person and remote Zoom office hour sessions.
If you want to have a 1 on 1 conversation, or if you can't make the scheduled office hours, you can still set up an appointment with me for a zoom meeting! In that case, send me a Canvas Inbox message at least 24hrs before you want to meet, with some days and times that work for you.
Purpose of Office Hours
When you sign into an office hour session on zoom or come to me in person during office hours, I might be with other students or you might be the only student present. You don't need to make an appointment and you are welcome to drop in at any point during the scheduled office hours.
Students last semester used this time to:
- ask for help on study questions
- ask for help understanding quiz and exam questions, or understanding why they got questions right or wrong
- ask for help finding course or institutional resources (ex. how do I get a library book? where do I find the answer to this study question? what do I do if I missed lab this week? how can I get tutoring for biology?)
- ask about science careers they are interested in
- ask general questions they are curious about related to biology or science or careers
- work quietly on their own, unmuting/speaking up if questions come up that they'd like help with
- chat and say hi
- tell me about something they saw/read/heard related to class or science in general
- introduce me to their pets, family, or houseplants
- ask for advice in their academic or professional lives
- give me feedback about how to make the course better for them/how to help them more
- work quietly on their own, listening in when other students had questions
How to Attend the Office Hour Zoom Sessions
At the scheduled times, follow this links found in TechConnect Zoom by clicking "join" next to the relevant meeting. Use a PC, Mac, iOS, or Android. If you're using the mobile Zoom app, click "Join a Meeting" and enter the meeting id (found in TechConnect Zoom). You do not need an account to join the meetings. Once you're in Zoom, you can use your microphone or the Chat box to communicate.
If you don't have a microphone or speakers, you may dial in by phone and enter the meeting id (found in TechConnect Zoom). Dial any of these U.S. toll numbers: +1 646 876 9923, +1 669 900 6833, +1 408 638 0968 to dial in before entering the meeting id.
