Activity Overview: Creating the Half Scale Sloper

Over the next several pages, we will walk through the process of creating our Half Scale Sloper Pattern.

We will start by copying the pattern out of the book onto paper by tracing, photocopying, or printing from the PDF.

Next, we will work through the TRUING of the pattern, which is a multi-step process.

And finally will transfer the pattern onto tag paper, cardstock, or poster paper so that it will be durable and stand up to all the work we will do with it throughout the semester.

Introduction

The patterns you will need for this activity are printed in the back of the textbook, but are also available on porcelynne.com . On the page where the textbook is listed click on the dropdown menu for "Select Book Format" and you will see the free PDF Sloper Download.

NOTE: For the first pattern exercises you will complete in the next two weeks, you will not need the pants sloper. You may want the pants sloper by Module 5 or so. You can feel free to create it now if you like, or wait until later. Just be sure to true the Side Seams and Darts in the same way you will do for the Skirt Pattern. You do NOT need to match the Pant Waist to the Bodice Waist.

Getting Started- Truing Seams

Now that you have your pattern printed or copied onto paper, lets get started with the process of TRUING.

We will begin by checking the Side Seams and Shoulder Seams. Watch the video below for detailed instructions.
