Instructor: Dr. Johannes van Gorp

Bio: I am very excited to have each of you in my class! I am looking forward to exploring the U.S. political system with you. A bit about myself: I got my B.A. from Lafayette College, where I studied History and International Affairs. I followed that up with a M.A. from New York University in European Studies, and Ph.D. in Political Science from Boston University. As you can probably tell, I simply love studying politics and history: I hope you will too after this course.

I've also lived all over the world and have traveled to more than 30 countries. Beside the US and the Netherlands, I have lived in Taiwan, Poland, Malaysia, and the Czech Republic. The last six years I lived in the United Arab Emirates, where I taught at the American University of Sharjah. Despite all these travels, I consider California “home”. I actually became an American here in 2014. I teach both history and political science courses at SRJC, Petaluma. As much as I love travelling, reading, watching the latest Netflix / HBO shows, and going on hikes – I don’t have much time for most of these. That’s because I have a wonderful 3 year old (Hendrik) and 6 year old (Elouise) that keep me on my toes when I'm not at work.
