I. For this assignment you are required to view a website from a museum collection of Ancient American historical art. Try a museum like the Smithsonian, or one of the large museums in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, London, Paris, Berlin, etc.
II. Spend a couple of hours learning about the time period and the collection and then answer the general questions below:
1. Write a short summary of the museum and the collection that you selected and explain which period you looked at and which type of art you explored.
(Questions 2-4) Select three pieces of art or artifacts from the museum and describe how each is a good example of the history and culture of the Ancient Americas or how it is connected to a major historical event.
5. What can a museum collection tell us about a culture that a historical document cannot? How can viewing the actual pieces created by these ancient cultures help you understand their historical context?
III. This is a writing assignment worth 10 points.
Purpose:
To evaluate student's critical thinking responses to questions.
