II.  Essay (100 points) You will answer one of the following questions:

1.   How is marriage discussed by Emma Goldman & Charlotte Perkins Gilman?   Compare their attitudes  to the way marriage is presented in 1950s TV shows and magazines?

2.  Describe women's attitudes towards politics from the Suffrage Movement through the Modern Women's Movement.   

3.  Describe the lives of African American women from the end of Reconstruction through the Civil Rights Movment.   Be sure to discuss any restrictions they encountered in addition to their social, economic, and political contributions.

4.  Describe the working lives of American women from the 1920s-1950s. How did the government, social attitudes, and media influence these women?

5.  Describe the lives of suburban women in the 1950s and how it lead to the Women's Rights Movement of the 1960s.

On the day of the exam, you will have a choice of two essay questions to answer. You can use outlines for this exam, but they must be in outline form and must be on the forms that I have passed out in class..

   Be sure to bring a Green book and a pen and a pencil to the exam.


Remember, thorough essays will refer to lecture, readings, overheads, and/or any videos that have been assigned or that  we have seen in class.   

 

Class does not meet the week of December 18th, so if you want your exam mailed back, be sure to bring a large self addressed stamped envelope and I will mail back your exam.
