Week 1 To-Do List and Overview
In week 1, you will familiarize yourself with online learning, the expectations for this course, and get to know your classmates. We'll also begin reading and analyzing the addiction readings for the first unit of the course.
Goals
If we're successful in this module, you'll be able to:
- Navigate the course
- Locate resources for online students
- Interact with classmates in discussions
- Synthesize the information in one reading with another (Duhigg and Slater readings)
Schedule
To reach the goals for this module, you'll need to complete the following activities:

2. Watch the video "Navigating your CANVAS course": click Next or navigate to it from Modules. If this is your first course in Canvas, I highly recommend this resource. | |
3. Read the Syllabus: click on Syllabus in the navigation menu on the left. | |
6/21 by 11 pm | 4. Introduce yourself, respond to classmates, and meet your instructor in the Check-In discussion. Click Next or navigate to the discussion from Modules. IMPORTANT!!!: This is how I confirm that you intend to complete the course—it is the online equivalent of taking role on the first day. If you do not check in by 11 pm on 6/21, I will assume you are not taking the course and drop you. |
6/21, by 11 pm | 5. Update your user profile and notification settings. |
6/26, by 11 pm | 6. Read "Rat Park" and participate in the Summary discussion. Important!!! Do the "Rat Park" reading first! |
6/26, by 11 pm | 7. Read "The Neurology of Freewill" and participate in the Graphic Organizer discussion. |
