Week 4: To-Do List and Overview
This week is all about getting started and organized for completing the Coates Essay: deciding on topics, beginning to do research for that essay, and sharing ideas for the essay in small groups. Also, the final draft of the Bachmann Essay is due!
Goals
If we're successful in this module, you will:
- Review how to work with sources properly in academic writing
- Continue reading and begin tracking a theme in Coates
- Begin working in a small topic-group to share ideas and resources for the Coates Essay.
- Understand how to use the library's resources to conduct research
- Learn about how to evaluate sources to ensure that they are credible and appropriate for academic settings.

To reach the goals for this module, you'll need to complete the following activities:

7/13 | Join a Coates Essay Topic Group, and participate in the group discussion to schedule a meeting time for the group. |
7/17 | Read p 64-114 of Between the World and Me and participate in a small-group discussion of that section (focusing on your topic for the essay). |
Read the Tentative Sources assignment for the Coates Essay and make a plan for completing that research and plan this week. | |
7/14 | Complete the library's tutorials and begin research for the Coates Essay |
7/14 | Watch the CRAP test videos and participate in the evaluating sources discussion. |
7/17 | Submit a Tentative Sources assignment. |
7/17 | Submit the final draft of the Bachmann Essay. |
