Getting Started in Canvas!
Before you begin the workshop we want to make sure you are comfortable in your new learning environment. The next few pages of this course will provide you with valuable information to familiarize you with Canvas and its features, they will also provide you with guidance on how to customize your profile and settings so you can work online most efficiently. Please take the time to review the Canvas information before you proceed to the workshop modules described below.

New Online Learners
You are about to begin your Quest for Online Success! Each of these modules will help you become a more successful online learner. Before you embark, we’ll tell you a little more about each of the core learning modules in this course.
Module 1 - Strengths and Weaknesses
Take the SmarterMeasure assessment. This assessment will help you identify your strengths and weaknesses— and the obstacles you’ll need to overcome as an online learner. After completing your assessment and carefully reviewing your results you will need to return to this Quest workshop where additional resources will be available for you to explore.
Module 2 - Overview of Online Learning
Prepare for your journey into online learning. Here you will discover what online learning is like. For those of you who may have never taken an online course, this section will help enlighten you about what lies ahead
Module 3 - Getting Tech Ready
Get to know your technology! This module is essential for those of you who might need a little guidance about what it means to be “tech ready.” We’ll clue you in as to what tools you’ll need to take a class online and bring you up to speed on tech jargon so you can speak to the digital natives. This module is primarily for the new online learner pathway especially those students who scored in the moderate or low range on the Tech Competency and Tech Skills Smarter Measure sub-tests.
New and Experienced Online Learners
Module 4 - Becoming an Effective Online Learner
Build some basic skills like getting organized, managing your time and online communication in this level, so you can hit the ground running when your online class begins. Great for all students especially those who scored low or moderate on the Life Factors, Learning Styles, Personal Attributes, or Reading Skills SmarterMeasure sub-tests.
Module 5 - Thinking about your Career
Reflect on your goals, interests, and desires to zero in on the best career options for you. This level will provide you with a process to make sure you have all your bases covered to keep you on the right path!
Module 6 - Constructing an Educational Plan
Plan often and plan early! You'll get the most of your education if you are focused on your educational goals. In this level, you will learn about the importance of developing an educational plan that works for you and how to stick to it!
Module 7 - Finding Instructional Support and Assistance
Get extra help if you need it! College campuses provide lots of different avenues for supportive assistance, but you have to know where to look to find them. In this level you'll learn about a few areas of support - your counselors and teachers may have additional suggestions for you as well!
Module 8 - Getting Personal Support
Make connections with counselors and staff if you start to feel overwhelmed! Learn about many obstacles that confront a typical college student in this level. Realize you don't have to try to "go it alone" - there are lots of people who want you to succeed and can help you develop strategies to deal with personal challenges.
Module 9 - Learning about Financial Aid
Looking for ideas on how to pay for College? This level is for you! Check out this level to learn about a few great online resources that are bound to pay off!
