Coates Reading Assignment—Introduction

We are reading very little of Coates this week, just to get a taste of his style and to get a sense for some of the themes he'll be focusing on throughout the book.

Review the Coates Essay prompt, also posted this week, and take note of the themes and lessons you'll want to be looking out for as you read.

Read the first section (pp 5-12), and use active reading strategies (the steps for this are posted this week).  Annotate the text, and take notes as you read.  Try to mark places that are relevant to the themes and/or lessons noted in the essay prompt as you read.  You'll post some key quotes to our "Quotes Bank" in another assignment this week.
