Steps to Complete the Practice Paragraph
Get started on your Practice Paragraph:
- Read MacMillan's Essay "The New Face of Hunger" and Part 2 of In Defense of Food, annotate and take notes on each text focusing on the rhetorical strategies and argumentative modes you see each author using.
- Decide which text you want to write about for your Rhetorical Analysis Essay.
- Join a practice paragraph group. Follow these instructions on how to join a group Links to an external site.. Go into the groups area, and select either a MacMillan or Pollan group. I have created 5 MacMillan groups and 5 Pollan groups. If many students decide to write about one author, I may need to create more groups. Email me if all of the groups are full.
- Canvas will automatically designate a group leader, and that leader should create a discussion to decide what rhetorical strategy you would like to focus the paragraph on. The other group members must respond to this discussion. This must be completed by Thursday, June 30th, 10 pm.
- The group leader should create a Google Doc for the group so that you can begin writing. Warning: Google Docs enables me who contributes what. If you sit back and let your group members complete this assignment, you will be given an F.
- When the paragraph is completed, export the Google Doc to PDF or Word, and submit the file to the Practice Paragraph Assignment. The Practice Paragraph is due on Tuesday, July 5th, 10 pm.
